Countertop Catastrophe Continuation

Thanks for all the support. I can not even express how great it is to come home from work and read all of the wonderful words of encouragement. I so wish that when my makeover was finished ya'll all could come over for a huge party!!!

To keep ya'll up on the kitchen drama. The installer arrived before the owner of the shop. I told him that I was not upset about his installation. He stood there and admitted that when he and his helper loaded the granite on the truck he asked Mr. Owner to look at the piece in question. Mr. Owner told him to "Go with it" .

The Installer was upset and told me, "Between you and me, I would not accept it. "

Girls, I said an not nice word that rhymes with ******oh never mind Iwill spare ya the nasty language. Before I could say or ask anything else of Installer, Mr. Owner walked in.
In my life I have learned that if someone is upset you just listen, they can not argue if the other person is not responding. Well I be doggone, Mr. Owner took the same life lesson as me...

He said in a real cool, calm voice 'What do you need me to fix?'

After showing him the problem area, still being calm as a cucumber, he let me know there is no more granite like mine on lot. He has no plans on getting anymore. He is going to send someone over to buff it out...Did not know you can buff out a crack.
Lets see that was Monday morning, it is now Tuesday night...wonder when he will be back? Maybe I should give him a little buzz in the morning. Yeah, I am quickly finding the assertive girl in me.

Just in case you are wondering if Camo Man left me and headed for the woods. Well, yes he still lives here...lets just say you learn alot about your spouse even after 22 years.

Lets look at the positive...Grannie fried us chicken and mac n cheese for supper tonight. Nothing like a little comfort food. Doesn't her chicken look YUMMY? One day I am gonna do a post and pictures on how she makes the best fried chicken in the south.

I am moving on...next post winner of one stolen tassel and cabinet knobs...

Huunney, you just need to embrace your inner "B" and tell him that you are the customer- which means that you are the one paying for this and you want it fixed NOW!!! You don't care if he gets that granite for future projects, but he better get it to fix yours!!!
It does look fab, though. Good choice on the color- I luv it! Andi

I can relate. I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel now too. Except I don't have counters yet...yes, no counters...UGH! We are eating out alot because it's too hard to prepare dinner without any counters. My granite is coming next week...I Hope!

You bug him until he shows back up! There's a story about that in the Bible, you know!

And that chicken looks soooo good! I can't wait for the recipe. I have tried frying chicken maybe once in my life...it didn't turn out that great. Any help is appreciated! :)

Hey that is great that he's going to fix it! He knew it was coming. You should see if he has some kind of listing on yelp.com or some other website where you can rate his service. Well that chicken just looks fantastic. :)

All the best,
Allison

Oh, I'm so sorry you're having to go through all of this. Shame on that owner! Tell him you're not stupid - there is more of that granite somewhere and he can just go get it! OOOH! Poor one, I'm sorry you're so upset!
But on a better note - that chicken looks so delicious! Share her recipe soon!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Hope you haven't written the check yet. I'd tell him it's not coming until he replaces the entire thing.
I have to say, that chicken would put me in nervana.

Good Morning Miz Susie's Sweet Sister! Do you have a written contract or estimate or anything from the countertop guy? Does it have any small writing that might help you? Do you have a local news channel that does a On the Side of the Consumer type report where they go after problems/person and solve them for you? What about Better Business Bureau? It just seems a little bit like this counter top guy thinks he can walk over you and let this slide. That's not acceptable, you didn't pay for a cracked countertop, you paid for quality. Does he have a storefront business location that wouldn't benefit if you made a visit to it to discuss in detail this problem of his all the while in ear shot of his potential customers? Unfortunately there are tradesmen out there who feel they can treat women in a dismissive manner whereas they would never ever think of treating a man that way. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this type of problem when you should be happy about your new counter tops! Don't let this pass, keep standing up for yourself and you can get your point across without being mean, sometimes it's the quieter folks who scare me the most *smiles* But whatever path you take with this guy, remember, you're in the right and it's your home, your money, he's breached the trust, not you. Good luck!

I had the same thing happen when we built this house. The granite went in- very high end granite- and they cut the bar piece short by about two inches on either end, which they then tried to fill in with CAULKING!! I was a little upset. I spoke with the builder about it, and he agreed that it wasn't a very pretty fix, but that he didn't want to rip out and waste this huge piece of gorgeous granite.

Could I maybe place a plant over each end of the bar?

Are you fetchin' kidding me??!!

I said no way. I paid for these counter tops, and I wanted them as close to perfect as possible. Your mistake caused the waste, not mine.

I got new counter tops, and I didn't feel bad for one second for insisting on it. It's YOUR MONEY!!

Now pass the chicken!
